The top folder is a metal recoil pad with a 1/4" thick rubber covering on it. I have a Choate top folding stock on a 500 Mossberg that is my boat gun. It locks up solid when folded or extended and is all metal. One of the nicest top folding stocks I have seen. The only reason I have it on is so the gun will fit in one of the lockers on the boat and it can then be secured.
